Hello and welcome to my series called Word Not World Series, an episodical poetry anthology inspired by the words you requested from a picture I posted on my Instagram story. The most recent installment featured this beautiful picture below:

I absolutely love the composition of this photo. The contrast between the cool and warm colors, the romantic gesture in the epicenter, the mystery of their story, absolute perfection. There was so much to write about this piece so without further ado, here are poems inspired by the words you sent in!

Talks
Late night talks,
therapy sessions to cure myself of the truth
that is rotting me from the inside
out.

Necrosis
They drink to fill with numb,
the last two cells in my brain
that have not yet been blotted out by the necrosis of my body,
two more minutes left of my demise,
they drink, then dance,
hand in hand,
reminiscing on their time together,
cackling as they spin and spin in the epicenter of ruin,
merry go around and around,
as the darkness closes in
different this time,
veining their peripheral with shadow,
they twine their fingers together,
eyes locked on the others,
they know it is here,
stuttering the chatter with quiet,
ebbing into their eyes with tears,
but they do not look away,
the end will not scare them,
they will go, hand in hand,
in kindness, not silence.

Hush
The quiet floods the room,
I see the waters rise in your eyes,
you are not hurting my feelings.
I saw the tides rising and knew I had to return to shore.
I waded in the sea for too long,
hoping that I could be like you,
grow gills,
filter out salt,
but I am just a fisherman, who hoped that this would be their catch,
and you are a fish, wearing your rusted hooks for protection.

Bestow
Atlas,
I bestow upon you my faults.
Can you show me how to fix a world
under pressure?
