Hello, my name is Kate, and welcome to St.Sinjin (pronounced Sin-Gin), where we talk about starting out as a writer, character types, tropes, Writer’s Block, woe, and avenues to make your mark. With this being my first post, and your first time reading it, (hello again) I would like to explain the newsletter by explaining what the name means.
Question, what is Sinjin? Sinjin has been a noted name in my family for as long as I can remember, the name being another way to say, St.John. St. John is not only the Apostle now canonized as St. John the Beloved, but was also the penname of my late grandfather, (Paw, as we called him), Enis St. John.
Paw, my grandfather, was a mentor to me growing up, looking over my extremely rough drafts at every family gathering, and giving me advice over the years like the importance of vocabulary and to always have a voice recorder by your side. He loved literature, theater, music, and the arts that we, simple humans, created, and he created himself, being the author of his Cuckold Creek series and poetry pieces. So, who better than to name this site after him, a place where we can talk about tropes in stories, authors, characters we love to hate but can’t stop writing about, and fight off the gloom of Writer’s Block?
Sinjin is something that I have been carrying around in my pocket for a while, noting the weight of its vacancy at my side, and letting it get comfortable with being hidden away, only knowing the rustling of pennies, copper being the only change it knew. Well, the time has come to unearth Sinjin, put it on the counter, and let it have its moment as the newsletter, St. Sinjin, and I hope you enjoy these pieces as well as relate to them, (please ignore the lint, it was in that pocket for a while).
Until next time, see you - type you later!
Nailed it.
