As a writer, I am undeniably a daydreamer. As a daydreamer, I love listening to music. Ballads, scores, showtunes, anything paints the picture and blocks the scenes that help me write my stories. Below is an archive of the scenes I have seen inspired by my songs/ music. (Each song is hyperlinked if you are interested to listening to these songs as well)
Fight Scenes:
(Perfect for a good brawl, the Search by NF sets the perfect pace for a one on one duel. Especially when the “beat,” comes back! )
(I imagine (not dragons) that Natural is a story that follows an apprentice in their training. They are constantly being beat down over and over by other trainees until finally they win fights, becoming the “natural.”)
(This is to Filip. Filip. When this song dropped, so did my jaw. I played this in my car on my commute to and from work for WEEKS. The chorus is ethereal and so is the music. Gods Awaken is a battle of epic proportions. I imagined this as the theme behind a teased brawl between two rivals in a colosseum and yes, it is to the death.)
Villain Songs:
We All Become - Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett
(I can’t tell you how many times I listened to this song because it has just been so many times. The perfect song for a villainous duo reconvening after their plot begins to play out.)
(Here me out. In this daydream induced by The Carpenters’ Close To You, I imagined protagonist being captured by the enemy. Protagonist is tied to chair in white room. Villain enters and starts Karen Carpenter crooning as they attempt to get information of the protagonist (hidden treasure, power, hidden person villain wants, etc). Check out this song to get a sense of the scene, it is so good!)
(Picture this. You rest at a tucked away tavern. The air is full of clatter from drunken laughter and pints. There is a band playing cheerful music that hums in the air. You are talking to the barkeep and enjoying a moment to relax from your quest. Cue the violin, and, of course, the villain’s number).
Love Songs
(Absolutely love the pacing of this song. Character A is suffering from amnesia after a fight. She is in a relationship with Character B who is anxious to have her back. During the song, A watches B set up the table for dinner. B is muttering too himself as he goes over the details, while she watches him, amused. She looks over to see their favorite flower in vase, and starts to remember him. As B finishes their work, A comes up to them, tearing up as all of their memories rush in. B is talking to her until he notices - she is holding his hand. He is about to ask if she remembers - but is answered by a kiss. )
(Do you have a pending love interest that are opposites? Have them lower their guards and get to know each other more in a montage to Fire and Flood, a ballad to opposites that balance out the other perfectly).
Unchained Melody - The Righteous Brothers
(A timeless classic, full of so many opportunities with story telling. My favorite scene idea is that a party has been invited from one of their patrons to celebrate a recent victory. During the fight, however, Character A sacrificed themself for Character B. During the celebration, the two step out to be alone, where B looks at A’s wounds and tears up at how easily she could have lost him. A notes this and tells her, “I don’t regret anything,” thus, igniting a sweet kiss between them, a moment of clarity, vulnerability, and of course, love).
