October Recap
In honor of November beginning (how we are in November now, I have no idea), I wanted to bid October an official farewell by reflecting on my favorite pieces, while I return the husks of our jack-o-lanterns back to the earth and snuff out the pumpkin themed candles.
Below are five poems that I wrote during this past month starting with ….
Hope
I consist of four letters,
like bird or moon,
something holy like the soul
that kisses you in between the eyes, planting love in your mind,
like rain after drought, making you wise,
fire trained on a wick,
or like an echo, who traces over life by stone,
washing over grave faults religiously,
using the crags to honor my name,
Hope.
Linger
Lord,
let me linger in the afterlife like the fog does,
fringing on death,
the last breaths before I rest forever,
let me dream in this realm too-
watch the dawn of my predecessors ebb through my name.
Lightyears of funeral processions
Heaven is hospice for the stars,
cradling them in constellations as they transition from grandiose giant to blackhole,
fading into the night,
falling into the dreams of poets,
who watch their departure from stanza-ed distances.
Setting the record straight
I was pursued, not courted,
prized, not cherished,
collected, not loved.
Please
Let us have eternity and more,
this love is too good to end.
