Evanescence
Evanescence. Not only the name of a good band, but a word that describes the act of something disappearing from sight or memory, aka the rough drafts in my Google Drive.
As my Mac started to slow down, I transferred my work from the desktop into my Google Drive. I have folders that have works in progress, drafts for books, and …unfinished pieces. I stumbled across them when I cleaning out space and it took me down memory road, to an extent.
I feel like Professor Calamatious, the Jimmy Neutron villain who can’t finish his experiments when looking over these pending projects, letting them collect dust in the Drive, their last timestamp just sad to see. For some, I have no idea why I never finished them, while the others, I am very much aware of why, bumping into the Writer’s Block that has set up camp across its font.
It is not failure to have unfinished pieces by any means. It is good practice to walk away from loopholes in your story or the conclusion of a sonnet, or else fall prey to insomnia bursts of typing, or running to the nearest pad of paper only to find that the thought has evaporated from your mind by exhaustion of the idea. However, there comes a time where you have to face an unfinished thought, in writing or in life, and the time has come. I have decided to shift my focus back onto these pieces and have set the goal to have at least five of the discarded poems done within three months.
Wish me luck! I will post a following post that will hopefully feature the poems.
(PS: Writer’s tip: if you have trouble setting up the layout of your manuscript, use Google Drive! I found that it was much easier to edit as well as input poetry/plots into layout).
